Create more, and share the love this Valentine’s Day!  Today, on my 56th birthday, I’m reflecting on life, growth, and the paths ahead. It feels fitting to share this important update with you now. After nearly 16 and a half years of creating, teaching, and building community at Express Yourself Studios, my family and I have made the difficult decision to close our doors at 1877 Springfield Avenue this March.
This decision was not made lightly. Over the past several months, I’ve been navigating complex lease negotiations and addressing extensive studio repairs caused by two major sewer flooding incidents with our new landlord. The process involved legal counsel and a significant amount of time and effort. Until last week, I genuinely believed we were on the path to a resolution. Unfortunately, it became clear that moving forward would require litigation—a path we’ve chosen not to take. Instead, we’ve decided to close the studio and transition into a new chapter. It’s hard to put into words how much this space has meant to me and to all of you who’ve been part of it. Express Yourself Studios has carried us through two recessions, a pandemic, and so many joyful moments of creativity and connection. From art classes and summer camps to birthday parties, this studio has been so much more than a business—it’s been a second home. I’ll forever treasure the memories we’ve created here. Even though our physical space is closing, the mission of Express Yourself Studios will continue through this Blog and as we transition to offering art workshops for organizations, community centers, and healthcare clients, as well as team-building programs for corporate clients at their venues. Our art—original pieces, prints, and novelty items—will still be available for purchase through Wayfair, Fine Art America, our website and very soon Walmart. On a personal note, this transition also marks a new season for me. I plan to dedicate more time to developing my own art, something I’ve long been passionate about but often put on hold while running the studio. I’m excited to explore this next phase and look forward to sharing more of my creative journey with you. In the meantime, our schedule of classes will continue through February, and we’d love for you to join us for our remaining sessions. Let’s make the most of this time together and create some beautiful memories before we close our doors. We understand this is short notice and deeply appreciate your understanding as we navigate this transition.
