Materials:

  1. 1 sheet of 8 ½ ” x 11” White Paper or Larger
  2. Pencil
  3. Markers
  4. Paint (Watercolor, Acrylics), Crayons or Pastels
  5. Paint Brush

Directions:

  1. Place your paper in portrait position (vertically). Draw a shape that looks like a football, leave the bottom of the "football" open. Draw a circle at the top of the "football" then a smaller circle within the circle (this is the nose cone)
  2. Close the bottom of the "football" with two narrow rectangle shapes. You now have the beginnings of a rocket
  3. Create teardrop shapes at the bottom of the "rocket" these are the hot gases/flames. Now create the rocket's fins on the left and right
  4. Draw any additional details on your rocket that you would like
  5. Draw stars in the atmosphere/background, use a small plate or circular item to draw a half circle in the upper right corner of your paper, this is the moon
  6. Now it's time to paint/color. Use a yellow crayon or pastel to fill in your stars and portions of the hot gases/flames. Use a gray crayon to trace the moon and create craters
  7. Paint the atmosphere/background in with black and purple paint. Use orange and red paint for the hot gases/flames. Paint your rocket's nose cone and fins in whatever color you would like, we chose red. Paint/color the other details of your rocket how you would like
  8. Finish by tracing all pencil lines with a black marker
  9. Bonus, if you have silver or gold glitter, use a glue stick in the background and dust with a little glitter
