About Simone Anthony-Brown
Simone Anthony-Brown is an artist, instructor, curator, and founder of Express Yourself Studios, an art studio, gallery, and creative hub in Maplewood, New Jersey, since 2008. Her work is celebrated for its vibrant watercolor and acrylic paintings and intricate mixed-media collages, which explore themes of cultural heritage, equity, and social justice. Known for her bold use of color and texture, Simone’s pieces have been collected by art enthusiasts across the United States and Canada. She is currently working on commissioned pieces from her Family Tree series, showcasing her talent for storytelling through art. As an instructor, Simone has led art workshops for children and adults through her studio, the South Orange/Maplewood Adult School, and at libraries and senior centers throughout Union and Essex County, New Jersey. She specializes in a range of mediums, including acrylics, watercolors, pottery, and mixed media, and enjoys helping participants of all skill levels explore their creativity. Simone’s Echoes of Heritage series was highlighted in Art in the Atrium’s W.O.W.: Women’s Outstanding Works exhibit (2024), and her Sanctified Souls mixed-media collage series was featured at the Perth Amboy Gallery Center for the Arts (2024). She was also commissioned to create All the Praise, a mixed-media collage celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Wallace Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Summit, NJ (September 2023). Express Yourself Studios As the owner of Express Yourself Studios, Simone is leading its transition from a brick-and-mortar space to a creative service organization that hosts art events and workshops for community organizations and corporations. The studio through its brand Express Yourself Art & Co., also functions as a design hub for art-inspired projects in apparel, home décor, and consumer goods that merges artistry with everyday living. Marketing & Business Background Before dedicating herself fully to art, Simone spent over 18 years in marketing and advertising, holding positions at PEOPLE, Essence, and The New York Times. She developed integrated marketing programs and sponsorship opportunities for brands such as Unilever, JPMorgan Chase, GlaxoSmithKline, Home Depot, and Estée Lauder. Additionally, she worked at top advertising agencies DMB&B, Deutsch, and Young & Rubicam, leading media planning for major clients including Procter & Gamble, IKEA, and Xerox.
