Materials:

  1. 1 sheet of 8 ½ ” x 11” White Paper or Larger
  2. Pencil
  3. Paint (Watercolor, Acrylics), Crayons or Pastels
  4. Paint Brush
  5. Marker

Directions:

  1. Place you paper in portrait position (vertically) find the middle (horizontal) and create a large, spiral shape (your rose) be sure to keep the edges sharp and angled versus curved and round
  2. Create a few more of these "roses" around the paper (small, medium, etc.)
  3. Now sketch a few other shapes in your background such as squares, triangles, circles and random lines
  4. Time to paint, choose colors for your rose, we chose pinks and purples, paint your roses in layers with the colors you have chosen
  5. Select colors for your shapes, we chose yellow, orange and blue
  6. For the background we will use a mixed media technique, choose 3 crayons for your background. We chose a lime green, green and blue. Color sections of the background with your crayons
  7. Give your background a "wash" with green watercolor paint. The paint will not adhere to the crayon colored areas
  8. To finish, trace your pencil lines with a maker, we chose a black sharpie, make your lines a bit larger than the pencil line so they appear very bold against the watercolor paint
